It was therefore important to improve the healthy building technology and evaluation standards in China, he proposed.

“The outbreak of contagious diseases will accelerate the popularization of healthy buildings. In the future, consumers or users will have higher demands for the comfort, safety and health standards of buildings, and healthy buildings will become the most important factor in people’s choice of residential apartments and workplaces. That said, China does not yet have the national standards of healthy buildings,” said Hong Jie. “The WELL Building Standard and the Healthy Building Evaluation Standard (T/ASC02-2016) approved and published by the Architectural Society of China are the reference criteria used by most developers. However, the WELL system is based on the building design system and lifestyle of the Americans. Due to the differences in building designs and lifestyle between China and the U.S., introducing the WELL system to China may not suit the local conditions and therefore cannot meet the actual needs of the Chinese people. In addition, the Healthy Building Evaluation Standard (T/ASC02-2016) is currently a group standard, which is not well recognized by the market and has not been fully popularized. In addition, the Healthy Building Evaluation Standard (T/ASC02-2016), which is developed by an industrial group, is not yet fully recognized or widely used in the market.”

Therefore, Hong Jie believed that the WELL building standard of the U.S. and the healthy building evaluation standard made by the Chinese industrial group were both based on the green building evaluation standards. He suggested merging the green building and healthy building evaluation standards into a set of green and healthy building evaluation standards to guide the development and construction of healthy buildings in China, save the trouble of enterprises and consumers to choose from too many standards, and avoid inconsistent implementation.
